"Building a Community Learning Ecosystem For Climate Change Resilience in Northern Colorado" is a 2.5 year project funded by the NSF program on Cultural Transformation in the Geoscience Community (CTGC). As a community engagement consultant, I'll be guiding the development of a community of faculty from U. of Northern Colorado, students, and local place-based community members to work together to learn about and address climate change resilience actions. Overall goals of the project are: (1) identify how to prepare students to work with community stakeholders on local projects that build community resilience to climate change impacts and ability to adapt; (2) build expertise about climate change resilience among faculty from a broad array of disciplines; (3) develop resources for community members to empower them to make decisions and take action around climate change challenges. Goals of this role: 1. Develop and implement a sustainable community engagement approach for OPeNDAP (an open source science software company), and 2. Design and conduct user research to set OPeNDAP on track to be a learning organization.

Co-author of a book with Eva Jo Meyers titled, A Guide for Community Stewards. Expected publication of the book is July 2025.

Conducting research on a broad range of topics, including social-ecology, community resilience, scientific data access and usability, and the future of work and scholarship.

I help to strategize, build, and support a governance, volunteer, and participation structure for the Ronin Institute's community of 400+ Research Scholars based around the world. I also wore the other hats including: Human subjects research chair to review research protocols of scholars, Grants Office representative to help scholars submit proposals for federal grants, and overall administration of the Institute. Tropical Conservation and Development Program, Center for Latin American Studies

Goals of this role were to 1) Conduct a program evaluation of ESIP as an organization; 2) Create research-driven products around the theme of “Making Data Matter” and the socioeconomic value of Earth Science data, resulting in a peer-reviewed paper and webinar series.

Center for Resilient Communities, Department of Landscape Architecture: Led synthesis papers and developed a training program around social-ecology and resilience.

Strategic development: Seeking out new opportunities for NEON to support long-term sustainability of the observatory by engaging community, contributing to research proposals, and writing position papers.

Co-development and implementation of a field course, “Monitoring Protected Areas from Socio-economic and Biodiversity Perspectives,” aimed toward building capacity for Amazonian protected area managers. Course held for 2 weeks in 2013 and 2014.

Preparation of Thailand profile report on smallholder use and management of forests on sloping landscapes in Asia. Report was based on a collection of perspectives from stakeholder ranging from community members to federal natural resource managers associated with northern Thailand, and synthesizing their perspectives with review of literature and policy.

Lecturer for "Environmental Policy and Socioeconomic Values." Developed and delivered field-based teaching activities and classroom lectures that emphasized skills related to working with place-based, partially subsistence-based communities. Supervising undergraduate student research projects on social-ecological resilience.
