Kia ora & Assalamualaikum,I’m Arina, the Community Connector & Youth Coordinator at OAR FM in Ōtepoti Dunedin. I love working with our vibrant multicultural communities and young people, helping them create their own radio shows and podcasts to share their voices and stories.I also host a few shows myself:1) The Arinality – Exploring the cultural identities of women in Aotearoa, broadcast nationwide on access media stations.2) Muslim Chaplaincy Conversations – In collaboration with the Otago Muslim Chaplaincy.3) Vibe Check on Youth Zone – Focused on youth events and support in Dunedin and beyond.4) Connecting Cultures Features – Showcasing multicultural events in our community.5) Asia Unfiltered – A project with the Asia New Zealand Foundation Leadership Network.I’ve been part of the Asia New Zealand Foundation Leadership Network, serving on their Advisory Board from 2021 to 2024, and I contribute to the Otago Community Trust Rangatahi Youth-led Fund and Philanthropy New Zealand’s Youth in Philanthropy group.Originally from Kedah in northern Malaysia, I’ve called New Zealand home since 2009. I graduated from the University of Otago in 2020 with a degree in Psychology and Gender Studies. During my studies, I was active in student advocacy, including serving as the International Students’ Representative for OUSA and leading the Otago International Students’ Association (OISA). I was also involved in initiatives like Thursdays in Black, supporting solidarity against sexual violence, and completed an AFS Global Competence Certificate through Massey University, supported by the Asia New Zealand Foundation.I’ve been lucky to receive some recognition along the way, including being named in the University of Otago’s 20Twenties Young Alumni Awards and the Asia New Zealand Foundation’s 25 to Watch under education. I’ve also worked with Education New Zealand as an ambassador and IDP Education as an article contributor.I’m always open to opportunities that support young people and multicultural women, especially in community-building, philanthropy, or representation.
