As a senior hydrogeologist at Digby Wells I managed groundwater assessments for Feasibility Studies, ESIA's and Closure Plans in South Africa, the DRC and Mali. In addition I worked on soil capability and contamination projects and gave input and reviewed proposals and reports for the soils and rehabilitation unit.

At GCS I worked on mine feasibility studies, impact assessments, groundwater flow and contaminant transport modelling, hydrogeological and soil investigations and groundwater management. My experience includes projects for PGM, diamond, manganese, copper and coal mines and covers work in South Africa, Lesotho, Zambia. Mozambique and the DRC. My groundwater modelling software experience includes GMS 10 and Visual Modflow Flex 2015.

I was the principal hydrogeologist of the SAAone project team (widening of motorways A1, A6 and A9). The work included project management, groundwater impact assessments, dewatering modelling, groundwater monitoring plan and network design and groundwater abstraction licence applications for several pedestrian/bicycle tunnels and the largest Aquaduct in Europe.

I was seconded as a project soil scientist via Ecoselect recruitment, interpreting soil contamination risk based on desktop research on current and historical potential contamination sources for regional government and several municipalities.

At VWO-campus I worked on the setup and try-out of a short course to be given at secondary education level schools to get scholars acquainted with subjects (in this case: soil physics) as given at Wageningen UR.

As an intern at Alterra I worked on several experiments on copper contaminated soils. The experiments focussed on the effect of Phytoremediation in combination with EDTA on the copper concentrations in soil moisture and the removal of EDTA-bounded copper via plants. The work included carrying out laboratory experiments, data interpretation and reporting.

At the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität I did research on the influence of catchment characteristics on the hydrochemistry of the Dreisam River at the Albert Ludwigs Universitat, Freiburg im Breisgau.

At WARDA (now AfricaRice) I did research on the effects of rice cropping on two alkaline soils from rice irrigation schemes in Mauretania and Mali, the results of which were published in the article: "The effect of irrigated rice cropping on the alkalinity of two alkaline rice soils in the Sahel", P.J.A. van Asten, J.A. van 't Zelfde, S.E.A.T.M. van der Zee, C. Hammecker.
