Allen & Overy's Smart Start Futures Program is an unparalleled work experience which aims to help bridge the gap between students from low-socio economic backgrounds, and professional roles in law. This program is one of the most unique experiences I have taken part of, with the opportunity to network, capitalise on interview preparation, and support with studies through Peppo Tutors, as representing only some of the many opportunities offered by the program. Through tasks such as the 'negotiation task', I worked in teams, taking on the delegation of tasks alongside the preparation of work for both myself and others. I also enjoyed forming the line of communication between others in my group, allowing myself to take on the increasingly difficult task of doing the final decision-making, and assessing roles onto my peers in order to yield the best result. During the program, I attained the 'problem-solving' award as a recognition of my work and effort.

Having met my strategist advisor out of pure chance, I was enlisted into the UK Crimson CAO Program. Crimson has since supported me with all aspects of my university application, from my LNAT, to my personal statement, to my final interview. As a result, I’ve achieved my top choice university offer, and seek to contribute back to Crimson as a thank you for their unmatched support.

Through this opportunity, I was able to gain invaluable experience of the working world by taking part in work experience with one of EY's employer partners. I massively benefitted from two weeks of employability skills training and interactive workshops, including team-building introductory sessions. Having had finished this opportunity after winning 2 awards, I reflect on my learning about different industries, organisations and working environments, gaining a wide variety of transferable skills to enable me a smoother start in my career, particularly in the opportunities to practice vital networking skills.

By working in the Experienced Hires team, I gained insight into the role of recruitment of the Teach First Company. I worked alongside 2 students to arrange both an event and presentation, aimed to convince career-changers to enter the teaching profession. By the end, my team delivered a presentation on our provided project. Throughout the program, I also worked with 20 other students on sessions covering topics like remote working, interview skills, and career journey talks from Teach First employees.
