Time for a confession!For the longest time I was certain that my long term goal was to be learning how to be a lawyer. I had everything planned out, starting with Model United Nations and Debate during the first 12 years of school, then continuing to look for similar opportunities to stand out during my undergraduate years, all in a pursuit to attend and excel at a prestigious law school. This all changed during my 12th grade Computer Science class. In this class we were given a long term programming project to submit by the end of the year. We could choose any project idea we wanted, then would spend the year developing it mostly on our own time and without specific guidance from our teacher. Initially I simply considered it another school project, and worked on it simply out of obligation. However over time I realized that I did not need to motivate myself to work on the project. I liked doing it. I believe that this is where my passion for programming was sparked, since I happily spent much of the following summer learning more about a number of different programming languages, attending my first hackathons, and working on personal projects. As a result of my efforts, I gained an opportunity to intern at Ontario Government during summer 23'. While working there, I had the opportunity to explore, understand, and enhance existing codebases. This task helped me learn how to work as part of a team, receive mentorship, and explore documentation related to developing in NicheRMS365 using XML/XSLT and SQL. In addition, I had the opportunity to work with Database Management System APIs which involved receiving JSON data, performing computations and generating new JSON in Python, then sending it back to the application. Finally, I had the opportunity to incorporate Dijkstra's Algorithm into a full stack application designed to automate officer dispatching. The skills that I gained from this internship helped me gain a new position at Western AI, which I hope to leverage to accelerate my learning of a number of new technologies regarding NLP, CV, and Predictive Modelling.After about a year of learning and numerous hackathons, I am comfortable using a number of different languages in both backend and frontend environments. I have exposure using different frameworks, libraries, and other technologies to assist in development and guide my learning. I am currently learning C, unix, vim, Assembly and more as I progress in my degree.
