I worked at this company for a period of 3 months where I worked on various projects. I got to do various construction document work on AutoCAD and doing site analysis by doing basic research about the site and its conditions and SketchUp for site topography. One of the greatest opportunities about this internship was that I got to work with an Italian Architect based in London who works for the indian company from time to time on projects that catch his attention. The project I got to work on with him was a design competition project that we were participating in that was 3 projects in one competition. The project entailed a high-rise residential building for the high-count judges staff members. I was put in charge of one the three projects. Working directly with another intern and the Italian architect, it was refreshing because this project was started from scratch. Site analysis to site research to programing, then moving to the design and development phase which then led to our presentation. I got make structural plans on CAD for the entire project and using a 3d modeling software (SketchUp) to create a 3d model that helped us give the clients an in-depth understanding of what design choices were made. The most intriguing part of this project was to design housing units with a square footage of 300. We had to create a set amount of units within a less desirable land use area. It was difficult but very informative as we combined traditions from Japan, Europe and India to solve this problem. We decided to create simplex's and duplex's that incorporated family spaces and single individuals who needed spaces to live and interact. We also had to adhere to Property setbacks and so we really had to be creative and push the boundaries of what we could and could not do.

I got to tutor under a architect consultant that worked for the construction company but also learned the ways of construction. The business was local to Colorado Springs but had work opportunities in neighboring cities and towns as well. I had the opportunity to work on site amidst construction that helped me better understand construction detail work and went on site visits for near finished or just beginning projects. I worked on budgeting for the construction company and did some of their as built work. The biggest project I got to work on was a future-planned remodeling work that was about to happen for the Broadmoor hotel and they required me to update their plans so that they could then use those to redesign the required parts of the hotel. My as-built drawings required me to measure wall to wall, the kitchen that serves the entire hotel, some rooms and shops that needed protection from construction happening above them which I then had to redraw them in AutoCAD. I also did CAD work for an army recruitment center in Colorado that needed a larger space to continue doing their work.
