I have recently completed a B.S. degree in Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics at UCLA with a minor in Anthropology.I love to interact with patients and have been volunteered at Venice Family Clinic to inform them on health insurance and access to various types of care. I have also volunteered as Clinical Care Extender at Ronald Reagan and Santa Monica Medical Centers for nearly two years. My work in clinical settings and my interactions with patients have given me a nuanced understanding of healthcare systems and skills needed to interact with patients on a daily basis.I also have a strong academic record and research experience in the life sciences. I have been working in life sciences research for nearly my entire undergraduate career. I believe my exposure to core research allowed me to develop strong analytical and organizational skills needed to identify and tackle complex problems.In addition to academic and professional work, I am a tennis player, instructor and manager. As the President of Club Tennis and a Tennis Instructor at UCLA, I nurtured my love of athletics, teamwork, coaching and competitive sports.I am looking forward to being a part of a great team and building a career in healthcare centered around working with people.

Of Neurology, Ucla Oct 2015 - Jun 2017Los AngelesI work with a post-doctoral fellow on the identification of genes that are potentially implicated in frontotemporal dementia. I have conducted extensive work in immunohistochemical, immunofluroescent, and immunocytochemical staining to identify expression patterns of various genes in control and pathological samples of mice and human brains. I developed and optimized immunostaining protocols in multiple tissue types and conditions. I also ran experiments with primary neuronal and microglial cultures to determine the activity of these cells in vitro, and analyzed data from these experiments to draw conclusions that could translate to potential drug targets for dementia. I have presented my research multiple times at symposiums and seminars through PowerPoint and poster presentations.

Healthcare NavigatorVenice Family Clinic, Ucla Health Dec 2015 - Mar 2017Los AngelesI help patients at the Venice Family Clinic navigate the healthcare system by providing information about medical services and insurance. Many patients are underprivileged and require information about programs such as Medi-Cal, MyHealthLA, or other low-cost options for medical care. I provide ways to access resources such as low-cost dental clinics, affordable housing, food banks, and mental health services. I also answer questions about how to qualify for various insurance programs and federal subsidies for health insurance, as well as how to sign up for insurance through Covered California. From many patients, I collect surveys about their experiences with the Venice Family Clinic and share this feedback with the staff. Typically I work for 4 hours each week, speaking to about 50 patients during each shift. Through my work as a Healthcare Navigator, I have developed insight into the obstacles low-income communities face when accessing medical care. While working with patients to assess their needs, I have also gained valuable communication skills that are translatable to both clinical and non-clinical settings.
