As a full-time lab assistant for the Firefighter’s Burn and Surgical Research Lab. I was on the pre-clinical team, conducting research through histological examination, microscopy, basic cell and bacterial culture methods, animal models, and molecular biology in areas of surgical translational research such as wound healing, fluid resuscitation for burn injury, and novel burn dressings/skin grafts. Additionally, I helped to collect samples for and maintain the freezer works database for the lab's biospecimen repository. I also was responsible for administrative tasks such as the management of the lab’s equipment maintenance, supply chain, outside lab study billing, and training of new lab members.

I was a graduate research assistant in the lab of Dr. Yuichiro Suzuki during the spring of 2023. I researched COVID-19 binding proteins and their relationship to conditions such as Alzheimer's Disease using molecular biology assays, including ELISA and other associated binding assays. Throughout the semester, I spent an average of 9-10 hours per week in the lab, and I used additional time to prepare a poster to present at the MedStar Georgetown Research Symposium and our program’s research fair at the end of the semester. The research from my abstract was included in a larger paper that was published in September 2023 in the Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics.

I was a tutor specializing in organic chemistry and life sciences for the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Education and its partner program, the College Success Scholars. I held 2-3 weekly office hours in both study spaces where I gave students tutoring for basic questions and exam prep. These programs were designed to ensure that minority students from underrepresented backgrounds could succeed by creating a positive learning community. Along the way, it was rewarding to guide students at a critical point in their journey - we had great conversations about clarifying goals after college in addition to what attitudes would serve them best in school or even just their current class.

I was a part-time scribe for the emergency department physicians at Baltimore-Washington Medical Center. My responsibilities were to document all the relevant information to a patient’s stay in the ED while under the care of my physician, including the history of present illness, medications, exams, imaging, consults, EMS notes, and critical care billing. I worked 2-3 shifts per week with many different physicians in the department who were often burdened with large patient loads, and many of their patients were special needs or elderly populations. I was grateful that I could observe and learn from my physicians while giving them more time with their most critical patients.
