Research Fellow
Current-Publications: 18+ (6 as First Author, 12 as Co-Author; & 4 Manuscripts in process).-Investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms during the development and progression of sepsis to provide a helpful basis for designing better treatment approaches for sepsis patients in the future.-Investigating on pulmonary disorders and their connections to innate immunity, host-pathogen interactions, and inflammation.-Member of Affinity Research Collaboration (ARC) “Respiratory Viruses: A Focus on COVID-19”.I am establishing robust cell culture models for SARS-CoV-2 infection, the virus causing COVID-19 disease. I also design assays to utilize and analyze human inducible pluripotent derived airways epithelial cells for COVID-19 research.-Investigating the role of pro-inflammatory such as IL-27 in γδ T cell-mediated innate resistance to primary hookworm infection in the lungs, which is an interesting factor to explore for developing adjuvants for vaccines that target the lung stage of human hookworms.-Investigating the role of extracellular histones during pulmonary fibrosis in the focus of the search for future treatment options for pulmonary fibrosis.-Lab manager and performs various duties, including laboratory organization (IACUC, IRB, IBC protocols, mouse colony supervision), assistance with scientific writing of manuscripts & grants and mentoring of trainees (Ph.D. students, undergraduates, and lab technician).
Doctor Of Philosophy - Phd, Translational Medicine
Ph.D. Thesis entitled “Immunity in the Context of Pathogens: Elucidating the Complexity of Host Defense Response Mechanisms”. Grade: “Magna cum laude (High Honor Award)".The thesis identifies the molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions and infection-associated inflammation, and suggests potential targets for immunotherapy.
Graduate Research Associate
Participated in independent and several ongoing projects which are published in BBRC journal and Immunobiology journal.-My study revealed that the neuroendocrine influences of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis on the shock-associated inflammatory response are more selective and complex than previously known. These findings will be helpful to predict some of the consequences of therapeutic manipulations of the HPA in the context of sepsis and septic shock. -My study highlighted the negative contribution of NETs release in fungal infection in a vulnerable organ such as the lung. Inhibition of NETs formation might therefore be a useful strategy to avoid lung damage in immunocompromised patients, especially in those suffering from preexisting pulmonary disease.
Research Assistant
Participated in several ongoing projects which are published in Nature Genetics journal, PNAS journal, and Nature Oncogene Journal. Trained in most of the cellular and molecular biology techniques such as cell culture, animal handling, molecular cloning, in-vitro assays, Sanger sequencing, bioinformatics analysis, western blotting, FACS analysis, transfection and transduction using lentivirus.
Master'S Dissertation Research
My Master's research dissertation entitled “Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase Receptortype Delta (PTPRD): A Potential Tumor Suppressor” under the guidance of Prof. H. Phillip Koeffler M.D. Senior Principal Investigator, CSI Singapore; Professor of Medicine, NUS and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, University of California, Los AngelesThis research study identified PTPRD as a tumor suppressor that is involved in the development of Triple-negative breast cancer, Gliomas, and multiple human cancers. The work involved transfection, virus production, lentiviral infection, apoptosis assay, MTT assay, soft-agar assay, FACS, Polymerase Chain Reaction, Reverse Transcription PCR, Quantitative Real-Time PCR, DNA sequencing, and Western Blotting.
