At a core, I am a servant. I care about many things: equity, untethered access, education, enablement; but mostly about assisting those who want to help themselves. Throughout my career (and in personal endeavors) I strive to uplift those, who for some reason, got the short end of the proverbial stick. Why? Because I was: the defector, the refugee, the undesirable, the underprivileged, the one without access. The reason I succeeded was because of the generosity of those whom I encountered and wise advice they provided along my way. I haven't reached my zenith yet, and I do not know what that looks like but, I know that it will include making many "less miserable". I am a practical technologist. Technology helped me shatter many glass ceilings and I believe it will empower many around/after me to do the same (hopefully for the right, selfless, reasons). That is why I have chosen public service. It is through the public service where I am able to leverage years of experience, "book smarts", and public resources, to empower others. Whether it is in building fiber-optic cable plant in right-of-ways to interconnect public anchor institutions, or broadcasting a publicly accessible wireless access to the Internet in un/under-served communities, or streamlining access to educational resources, or simply aiding someone who otherwise would be incapable of getting to the resources needed to better themselves and their community - It all centers around the idea of brighter tomorrow for more. Through the years I amassed many skills. I'm at ease with the application of the TCP/IP stack, its capabilities and constraints, and security aspects. Client/server environments, virtual hosts/services, physical underlay and virtualized networks atop them, multipoint/meshed wired and wireless connectivity for endpoints and services, and of course 'the cloud'. At this point, it is about the unpublished layer 8 and 9 of the 7 layer OSI model. It's about "paying it forward", leveraging underutilized resources to make others succeed, and riding that wave of mutual success toward a brighter tomorrow. Technology is simply an enabler and an amplifier. We have the responsibility to use (and share in its promises) wisely.
