Arlene Notoro Morgan is a special assistant to Dean David Boardman at Temple University's School of Media and Communications, where she was graduated in 1967. From 2000 to 2013, she served Associate Dean of Prizes and Programs at the Columbia Journalism School. In addition to co-editing a multi-media textbook, The Authentic Voice: Best Reporting on Race and Ethnicity,Morgan founded the Punch Sulzberger Executive Leadership Program, the Spencer Fellowships for Education Reporting and the school's first Continuing Education Program. A diversity consultant to journalism schools and newsrooms, Morgan Morgan retired from Columbia in November, 2013. She joined the Temple staff in January 2014 after serving for nearly 20 years on its advisory board. During the past 15 years, Morgan has worked on advisory boards for several programs, including the Rosalyn Carter Fellowships for Mental Health Reporting, the Kaiser News Agency, and Philadelphia's WHYY Health and Science Desk. She is also an advisory board member of the Manship School of Communications at LSU in Baton Rouge, and the Journalism School at SUNY's Stonybrook campus on Long Island. As an advocate for the mentally ill, she served for nearly 30 years as a board member at Friends Hospital, the oldest mental health hospital in the country founded by Quakers in 1813. She is a founding member of the Scattergood Behavioral Health Foundation. A graduate of Temple University where she co-majored in journalism and political science, Morgan started her professional journalism career in 1967 at The Delaware County Daily Times, In 1969 she joined the reporting staff at The Philadelphia Inquirer where she subsequently became the first woman editor on the City Desk, the first woman news editor and the first editor to develop recruiting and staff development as an important newsroom feature. In 1995, she was recognized by Knight Ridder Newspapers with its first Recognition Award for Diversity.
