Director Trinity Walton Club (www.tcd.ie/waltonclub), Trinity College DublinTrinity Walton Club (TWC) is a university-based teaching and learning innovation, designed to increase the STEM capital* (*STEM capital is a catch all term that represents a learner’s knowledge, attitude, skill-set and experiences in science, technology, engineering and maths) of second level students, who have an interest in STEM. It provides space, time and stimulus for curious minds to flourish.This initiative was founded in September 2014 by the schools of physics, mathematics and education at Trinity College Dublin, and is dedicated to providing an excellent out of school program for students who have an interest in STEM. TWC has two core programs, the club and the camps. The club program continues for 100 weeks and runs parallel to four years of their formal education. The camps are shorter 10-day opportunities for junior-cycle students, and take place during school holidays. All students self-select to be part of either program, and are offered a place based on a personal statement and their results in an entrance assessment (in the case of the club). Further to this, TWC is committed to diversity and inclusivity through ensuring 50% of the learners and educators are female and 15% of learners are awarded full scholarships to encourage applications from DEIS and Trinity Access schools.
