About Arlin Arpero
I graduated from the University of New Mexico with a B.S. in Geography. I first encountered Geography when I was studying Business at Central New Mexico Community College, where I needed to fulfill a science requirement. I became fascinated by how humans interact with the world and how maps can visually represent this connection. After transferring to UNM's Geography department, I developed a passion for the technical aspects of the field, particularly Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and discovered the vast opportunities this evolving field offers across multiple industries.Pursuing my interest in GIS, I secured an internship with NASA, where I created a StoryMap for the Capacity Building Program, and taught remote sensing to students. Currently, I work for the Earth Data Analysis Center, managing projects in partnership with the NM Department of Information Technology and the NM Secretary of State. Coming full circle, I am now earning my MBA with a focus on project management to further enhance my career. My journey in Geography and Environmental Science has led me to believe that "GIS really puts you on the map!"
