Arlo was selected to help usher the company into several entrepreneurial initiatives and nascent manufacturing technologies. From 2008 to 2012, while working full-time to complete his Ph.D., Arlo served as the Director of Business Development for Veritract. Among his achievements is the successful generation of more than a million dollars in Series A equity financing and grant funding. Arlo also played a vital role in the startup’s successful 510(k) submission and licensing of the technology to a Fortune 500 company.Co-founded the company with gastroenterologist, Dr. John C. Fang of the University of Utah.Developed and wrote a business plan that was used to successfully raise grant, angel, and venture capital financing.Performed primary and secondary market research via physician/nurse interviews and literature searches.Performed economic analyses demonstrating cost savings from implementing high tech solutions to nasogastric feeding tube placement.Raised Series A equity financing from angel and venture capital groups.Secured grant funds for product development.Prepared and delivered presentations for investors and strategic partners.

The Lassonde New Venture Development Center's Mission is to assist researchers at the University of Utah with breakthrough technologies and to determine the commercialization potential of those ideas while providing students a unique educational experience in new business development.I worked with the Lassonde Center as an associate, successfully assisting a University researcher start up a medical device company and as the Student Director. My contributions at the Lassonde Center included the following:• Assisted university researchers in commercializing their ideas and technologies• Managed over 20 graduate students in MBA, JD, and PhD programs as they evaluated inventions and technologies and wrote business plans for commercialization• Developed commercialization and business plans for 7 university technologies through working with University of Utah researchers, the Technology Commercialization Office, and graduate students• Entered 6 teams into statewide Utah Entrepreneur Challenge business plan competition, winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes

MacroMed was a pharmaceutical startup developing polymer drug deliver systems for highly controllable timed release of drugs.Designed and validated feasibility studies on novel polymer delivery system for drug therapy.Validated and developed analytical methods to determine active ingredient levels and therapeutic drug release profiles.
