The workforce shortage has intensified in the US according to the 2018 Autodesk-AGC of America Workforce survey. It has become harder for construction firms to fill hourly qualified workers. Therefore, CS Construction Specialties (CSCS) is a small business endeavor that is trying to fill this need. Currently, we are specifically concentrating in providing qualified mechanic-electricians to electrical contractors and subcontractors in the Richmond, VA.We are looking in the near future to expand to other trades and construction firms. It has been exciting collaborating with qualified workers and construction firms. The fulfilling part of the business is when we successfully make the connection between qualified workers and construction firms to successfully complete a project. We are looking forward to expanding and establishing more relationships in the construction industry.

As a GA, I was required to conduct research on transportation, logistics, and construction scheduling. I also had the responsibility to oversee the scheduling class and ensure that all students received their studying materials on time, graded their quizzes/exams/assignments, review and update class presentations, and maintain the online section of the class updated.

Job Responsibilities:Pre-construction Preparation: Inter company pre-construction conference, study plans and specifications, bid review, sight visits, project planning / schedule development, and meetings with owner / representatives.Contracting Document Verification: Subcontracts, materials, trucking, permit applications, submittals, and any other documents required by owner.Construction Management: Coordination of work (Subcontractor, material delivery, personnel, asphalt plants, equipment, Q.C., trucking, and other project needs.Progress Management: Daily observations of activities, quality review, cost analysis, schedule updates, permits, make prompt corrections as needed (Manpower, equipment, materials, change orders, changed conditions, and trucking), keep accurate records (Project history, construction quantities, weather / project conditions, verbal directives, added work, and incident details).Communication: Update owner, update estimators (Gains, losses, changed conditions, change orders, and changes of original estimate), update management (Gains, losses, potential problems, actual problems, opportunities), and schedule updates.Monthly Payment Requests: Create monthly request or review owner generated payment estimate, verify accurate quantities of completed work, verify pay item prices are correct, review pay adjustments for accuracy, review change orders, supplemental agreements, and contract modifications.Project Closeout: Expedite project closeout, create cost effective punch-list, review close out documents, follow-up on contract requirements, for completion (as built drawings, submittals, and public notification), and conduct post-construction review.Safety: Promoted zero incident goal, Assess project specific risks and hazards, continuous on-sight condition inspections, continuous personnel observations, equipment inspections, and subcontractor observations.

Road ConstructionJob Responsibilities:As a Site Assistant PM my job was to quickly get adapted to how the company manages construction projects. My specific job was to understand the specifications, perform inspections, track and file important documents, help Senior PM with project scheduling, track actual quantities/updates, create and track purchase orders, track and inspect equipment rentals, and to understand the importance of field personnel duties and performance in the project (Paving crew, concrete crew, dirt crew, QC crew, plant crew, mechanics, and safety personnel).

Road Construction – QA/QC Asphalt Quality ControlJob Responsibilities:As a QA/QC Roadway Technician, I had to study asphalt mix specifications / project plans, documentation of daily asphalt product, verify material (asphalt) spread rate, verify mix temperature, verify density, observe material placement process, verify quality of material, verify finished product (visual inspections), report any issues immediately, communicate with plant asphalt frequently, and make field corrections as if material does not meet DOT specification.
