(Description under construction).Background:The focus of this position is primarily on a project called GIDS (Guideway Intrusion Detection System) that is being developed by QCA for Hitachi Rail STS, who has been awarded a contract to deliver the new Ontario Line Rolling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM) package by Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx, as leader of the Connect 6ix consortium. The Ontario Line will be a 15.6km subway line consisting of 15 new stations, making it faster and easier to travel within Toronto and beyond. The purpose of GIDS is to detect possible intrusion into the guideway from fences and portals, as well as generating an alarm to the Signalling & Traffic Control Systems (S&TCS).Tasks:• Assisting the Project Manager in planning, executing, and closing of assigned project tasks• Ensuring all QCA documentation standards are followed• Being responsible for project Transmittals and Submissions process/procedures• Being responsible for processing, receiving, and distributing incoming Submissions• Working with the Project Manager and Engineers to facilitate project document control• Organizing and participating in meetings throughout the project lifecycle; seeking input from stakeholders; organizing agendas and producing minutes of the meeting in a timely manner• Maintaining and organizing project documentation, including: project plans, timelines, schedules and status reports• Helping identify and resolving project-related issues and escalating them to the Project Manager as necessary; maintaining the project issues and action trackers• Supporting the development and improvement of project management processes including templating, effectively streamlining efficiency• Contract administration

Background:The focus of this position was primarily on the design and development of dust collection systems, including its ductwork and various equipment/machinery. Allied is experienced in the design, fabrication, installation, and ongoing service of industrial dust collection and HVAC Systems. Some projects include green field construction, retrofit of existing installations, relocation of existing equipment, scheduled maintenance, and breakdown service work. Industries serviced by Allied include: mining, forestry, power generation, cement, materials handling, food processing, and manufacturing.Tasks:• Acquiring a technical understanding of dust collection systems and machinery (e.g., baghouse filters, cyclones, centrifugal fans, blower packages, airlocks, feeders, tee-injectors, abort gates, etc.)• Preparing routing layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams with details to include all views and dimensions necessary for manufacture and/or installation of dust control and pneumatic conveying systems, effectively streamlining the process and contributing towards the completion of several multimillion-dollar projects• Creating/editing GA's, ducting packages, technical drawings, test port drawings, P&ID drawings, electrical drawings, motor and device lists, functional descriptions, and 3D modeling of ductwork and machinery using AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, Autodesk Inventor, and Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel• Doing static pressure calculations to determine the total static pressure of a system and sizing duct diameters and routing layouts accordingly• Creating a bill of materials (BOM) for manufactured items and transferring them into shop work orders• Inputting and managing manufacturing data in Allied’s ERP system with the use of Microsoft Dynamics NAV• Coordinating with sales, purchasing, shipping, manufacturing, and installation crews to provide support in completing projects on time and within budget

Background:The focus of this Co-op was primarily on a project called the XW Pro, which is a solar hybrid transformer-based inverter that is the key element to transition between four types of sources: solar, storage, grid, and generator. It was being developed further for the IEEE1547-2018 standard, which was a newly published IEEE standard specifying the minimum technical interconnection and interoperability requirements for Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) connected to distribution systems. It was important to test changes in the software attributable to software restructuring introduced as a result of the IEEE1547-2018 standard and implement changes as necessary.Tasks:• Acquiring a technical understanding of solar hybrid inverters (i.e., the XW Pro) and related concepts (e.g., active and reactive power, AC coupling, DC coupling, etc.)• Collaborating with teams such as embedded software and firmware to implement specified test functionality of the XW Pro• Improving the quality of software releases by ensuring the XW Pro meets its requirements through manual testing with Typhoon HIL, running/editing Gherkin test scripts on PyCharm, and scheduling automated testing for test cases on Jenkins• Narrowing down test case and customer (i.e., SunPower) issues to identify the root cause through investigations to alleviate them or come up with explanations for certain behaviors of the XW Pro, effectively leading to the passing and resolving of over 80% of test cases as well as customer issues• Implementing changes in Gherkin test scripts as necessary after testing/troubleshooting them and pushing the needed changes via Git/Gerrit• Identifying changes needing to be implemented in the XW Pro C code because of a determined firmware issue after investigations• Reporting CAN bus data and high frequency power signals with the collection of data and analysis/diagnostics• Managing bugs and other tasks with the use of Jira for issue tracking and project management
