About Armando Velasquez

Throughout my career, I have developed a broad range of skills beyond engineering and science. Always curious and seeking new challenges, I enjoyed working closely with people in other disciplines or areas of the business such as manufacturing, sales, marketing and the customers themselves. That provided a high level view on the projects that allowed me to better motivate and guide the team and maintain our focus on the customer’s needs. In addition, I always sought to have a hands-on approach to the project, from design and assembling of prototypes, to assisting the engineers developing and conducting test protocols. Supporting your team every step of the way is key to a successful project leader. My experience leading a cross functional team, offers a broad set of skills in engineering and business. For example, as the lead mechanical engineer at TA Instruments, I designed the instrument enclosure and internal layout. In the prototype phase, I worked closely with suppliers defining component specs as well as maneuverability especially for metal casting and plastic extrusion components. In the manufacturing phase, I worked closely with engineers and assembly technicians in developing work instructions, test fixtures and helping with any supply chain issues. However, throughout the life cycle of the project we had frequent design reviews to address any maneuverability or serviceability concerns. In addition,I provided project status presentations to C level leadership covering timeline, budget and risk management. One rewarding aspect of my career was providing technical product training for domestic and global customers. I received praises on how I customized the training according to the audience. I enjoyed this aspect of my career so much that I became an adjunct professor teaching physics to college undergraduates at Rowan University. More recently, I enjoyed working in a global team at PerkinElmer providing high end scientific services to GSK global sites. Part of a highly customer focused team, I was the project manager for the North Americas. Lead projects implementing new services, provide the customer with project management support, developed project management tools via SmartSheet, and conducted continuous process improvements to save cost and time to the customer. If your organization needs a project manager or team leader who knows how to communicate, organize, and motivate at all levels of the organization, let’s have a conversation. Specialties: Product Development/Project Management/Mechanical Engineering
