I am working in the design of a controller board. This board includes an Altera FPGA, DDR3, SPI RAMS, a Marvell Ethernet Switch device, interfaces for 4 Ethernet 100 Base-T ports, RS485, RS232, A/D, a Fan Controller and both switching and LDO Power Supplies. A function that is paramount in thisboard is current sensing and a breaker function that forces a pass transistor to turn off when too muchcurrent is detected. As of today, most of the board has been checked out by software and myself andfunctions as expected. This work also involved working with the layout designer in determining theboard stackup, trace widths, breakout of planes, component placement, impedance and matched length ofsignals. I also have had to create tools for testing.Part of my duty as a member of the team also includes reviews of other boards and system integration. This led me to help out with the layout of some of other boards as well and helping out with some minordesigns used for testing.I am using Cadence/Allegro as my schematic capture and layout tool.
