Our best work often happens when we follow our interests and passions. Fifteen years ago I escaped Chicago winters and moved to the desert oasis that is Palm Springs, CA. My partner was just as eager to stop shoveling snow and leave the winter coats behind. The challenge was convincing his father, who was retired and living with us. It was a pleasant surprise when he, too, agreed that snow belongs in the mountains.
