About Cpt Drew Staples M.S., M.D., Usarmy-Caarng

My highest priorities are sincerity, logical reasoning, and unwavering commitment to one's duties. Every day, I work hard to be a dependable pillar not only in my personal life but also in the lives of my loved ones, my community, and my workplace. Taking charge of my life and my career is something I enjoy doing. Whenever I set out to do something, I make it a point to focus solely on the steps that will get me closer to my objective. I have a strong passion for studying science and engineering and helping people in general. Health, medicine, and illness are areas that I am very interested in. That burning urge to do good for other people drives all of this. I am at my best when challenged to work hard, take on new responsibilities, and take the lead. Honesty, sound reasoning, and a complete commitment to one's work are all qualities I greatly admire. I can quickly reorient my skillset and take on new responsibilities to respond effectively to change. When I put my mind and body into something, I give it my all. When making important choices, I always refer to the Army's Decision Making skills and procedures, which help me be decisive and methodical. When making a decision, I use a method called composite risk management. When I have to get anything done, I use the most recent evidence-based strategy and work slowly and methodically until it's done.

Cell culture/transfection/western training completed. Ran COIP for Flag-Mcl-1/Myc-Parkin overexpressing Hela cells. Parkin expresses well, detected Parkin bands on Western. Flag-Mcl-1 did not express well – very little pulled down in IP. Transfected Hela cells for Mcl-1/Drp1 COIP (see below). Mouse lines updated, sacking/weaning. Worked on abstract, powerpoint for capstone project. Literature review with cardiac physiology (Wigger’s diagram). Run COIP for Myc-Mcl-1/YFP-DRP1 overexpressing Hela cells and determine whether Myc construct expresses better in Helas (Myc construct is human). Overexpress Mcl-1 in Hela cells to determine if this facilitates fragmentation under basal/FCCP stress conditions. Microscope training for mitochondrial fragmentation study/imaging. Analyze Mcl-1 levels in WT, Parkin-/-, and Parkin TG hearts under stress and non-stress conditions.
