I'm a recovering attorney who's now using my expertise in Business Acquisitions, Integration, Revenue and Profit Growth Strategies, Sell-Side Exit Preparation, Leadership and Management, and Law to provide value to the Business Partnerships I am a member of. I began my professional career 31 years ago as a U.S. Army Ranger officer, learning leadership and management from elite instructors and applying those skills in very challenging circumstances through service in two combat zones in the Balkans and Middle East. I left the military to earn a Doctorate of Jurisprudence degree from Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago. In the latter part of a 20-year legal career practicing contract law, contract litigation, and transactional law, a business client asked me to help him navigate the sale of his business to an acquirer. That experience caused me to develop a passion for M&A deals and to develop and add M&A Law to my skillset.To learn middle market M&A transactions on the buy and sell side, I completed advanced training and earned professional certifications from two leading private capital market organizations: the Certified Mergers & Acquisitions Professional (CM&AP) certification from the M&A Source, and the Certified Merger & Acquisition Advisor (CM&AA) certification from the Alliance of M&A Advisors. I've also completed a wide variety of buy-side acquisition instructional programs that did not offer certifications.To learn the critical, and usually overlooked, skill of M&A Integration that is vital to post-closing success of acquired businesses, I completed advanced training on Integration from the leading Integration expert Steve Nunn and became one of the first people to earn the Certified Acquisition Integration Manager (CAIM) professional certification.To learn how to optimize, grow, and prepare acquired businesses for a high multiple exit sale, I completed advanced training from the Value Builder organization, Roland Frasier, Jay Abraham, and other top business leaders and innovators on improving the revenue, profit, acquisition programs, and exit-readiness of businesses. I formerly offered my knowledge and expertise to business owners in a legal, consulting, and advisory capacity, but now apply it as a co-owner and principal of acquired companies.
