In this role, I led a student research ​group in a project that is pivotal to ​addressing systemic racism in New ​Brunswick. Our team conducted ​jurisdictional reviews across various ​provinces and organizations, delving ​into policy documents to identify ​best practices for anti-racism data ​collection. We developed numerous ​presentations, an infographic, and a ​comprehensive final report, which ​included our recommendations for ​implementing an Anti-Racism Data ​Collection Strategy in New Brunswick.This role honed my skills in ​leadership, mentoring, research, ​teamwork, policymaking, and report ​writing. Additionally, I received ​specialized training in research ​methodologies, policy creation, ​storytelling, individual and team ​strengths, and project management.

Working alongside the UNBSU VP ​Academic, I played a crucial role in ​organizing the annual book buy and ​sale event, which served as a resource ​for students seeking affordable ​textbooks. My responsibilities also ​included assisting in various academic ​initiatives and programs that ​supported the student body.

In my capacity as the Orientation ​Vice Chair, I was instrumental in ​planning and executing UNB ​Orientation Week for Fall 2023. This ​week-long event, which featured ​30 major activities, welcomed over ​1200 new students to the ​university. One of the highlights of ​my tenure was organizing a ​Fundraising Colour Run Event for ​the Greener Village, which raised ​over $4000. The event was the first ​of its kind on the trails of the City ​of Fredericton and garnered media ​attention, including a feature on ​CTV News.

Heart to Heart is a partnership program between the Mi’kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre and the International Student Advisor’s Office at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). It is primarily known for its commitment to educating students on Indigenous rights, history, and cultural understanding, fostering respect between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. I worked within the Heart to Heart program, functioning under the Student Affairs and Services team.Key Duties/Responsibilities:🔹 Orchestrated comprehensive research initiatives, event organization, and content creation for social media platforms.🔹 Developed and managed a monthly newsletter, garnering 52 subscribers and increasing student engagement.🔹 Spearheaded the creation and implementation of a style guide for social media, enhancing brand consistency and content creation efficiency.🔹 Maintained and updated the Heart to Heart SharePoint site, ensuring accurate and current information.🔹 Collaborated with key stakeholders to design and produce promotional materials, including large posters displayed on campus.Key Achievements:🔸 Successfully organized and facilitated events such as "Meet your Piluwatahasuwin with Cheyenne Joseph" and the "Beading Workshop," fostering cultural exchange and student engagement.🔸 Led the creation of the "Feature Friday" social media series, highlighting Indigenous-owned businesses and promoting community support.🔸 Developed a comprehensive Land Acknowledgment Writing Toolkit, aimed at promoting sincere acknowledgments and fostering reconciliation within the UNB community. My internship experience has not only equipped me with valuable skills in event management, communication, and community outreach but has also deepened my commitment to advocacy and social justice. I am passionate about using my skills and experiences to continue making a positive impact in advocating for Indigenous rights and fostering cultural understanding.
