Internship at the Magnetic Confinement Fusion Research Institute (IRFM), Engineering, Internals and Projects Service (SI2P), Components Facing Plasma and Materials Group (GCFPM).Work done : • Maintenance and calibration plan for laboratory test benches - dedicated to the control of plasma-facing components before they are installed in TORE SUPRA (1). • Receipt and assembly of plasma-facing components of the WEST project (2).• Non-destructive and destructive tests, load loss tests, tensile tests, hardness tests, thermal tests of components according to the standards.• Familiarisation with objectives, schedules and constraints of a major construction project. (1) TORE SUPRA is the only French Tokamak (toroidal chamber with magnetic coils) used for research in the field of controlled nuclear fusion, and test bench for ITER [https://www.iter.org] through the WEST project [http://west.cea.fr/en/index.php]. It is operated within the IRFM, one of the institutes of the CEA's Direction of Fundamental Research (DRF). Its specialty is the study of long discharges that require the plasma to work in steady state. High thermal powers, higher than MW, are created during TOKAMAK operation. Plasma facing components - like the tungsten Divertor WEST - will be in contact with this power. (2) The WEST project consists of renewing the internal components of TORE SUPRA with materials and design almost similar to the ITER project. Stationary operation is only possible thanks to the active cooling of the components and the precise control of the plasma -essential to not exceed the defined design limits. The study of plasma-facing components will be one of the challenges of the success of the WEST project.
