1. Platform IntroductionM-kulima platform is an easier to use mobile and web platform enabling multiple agric stakeholders to communicate and transact with farmers while providing number of services to farmers like loans, Advisory and inputs. I am introducing platform to farmers in Southern highlands zone of Tanzania as well as to different stakeholders involved in different agricultural value chain. Number of farmers and NGOs are onboarded and using this platform in their communication and transactions2. Partnership and Business development.For better introduction of platform, partnership with these stakeholders like NGOs, Agribusiness and Farming groups (Cooperative unions and AMCOS) is a must move to meet the goal of the project3. Training farmers and farming groups. This being another role to introduce the technology to farmers, together with team on ground we train farmers on how to and advantage of using the platform with other Vodacom products. Training is currently done in different regions including Mbeya, Songwe, Iringa, Njombe, Katavi, Rukwa and Ruvuma.4. Farmer’s registration, Management and data check.With the team on ground I am leading on farmers registration and Checking the data received on the system for both self and agent registration. I have managed to register more than 3mil farmers with a year with clear data check of every farmer under the platform.5. Opening up Agricultural M-pesa disbursement account that involves in payment via M-pesa to M-pesa accounts and other Mobile money and Banks.This involves training, demonstration and handling different challenges from agricultural companies and farmer’s organizations. This has been easier on moving them to cashless economy and thus reducing challenges on receiving cash payment as well as travelling for bank services.

1. Business Development.Through this role I managed to expand the operations where currently Simusolar is doing good in business as a result of my comment and suggestions after markets study in Lake, Central, North and Iringa + Morogoro zones. The number of sales has doubled and more demand are observed on regions.2. Credit check and financial evaluation of farmers.This was among of my key roles where all the application on financing of solar water pump had to be evaluated before the approval. About 247 customers were evaluated and had good repayment history3. System Design and Approval. Having the knowledge on agronomy, I was able to design different pump system considering the current and future requirement, crops under production and size of the area. Over 80% of the system designed has helped the farmers and they are able to repay the pump from their farming activities.4. Setting up criteria for good customer and sales process of solar water pumps. The client portfolio has improved since my engagement on this role from 70% late payment customers to 30% of total customers.5. Demo sites Establishment and ManagementWith this, I have managed to set up the 6 demos which facilitate on training. Moreover, from these demos about 56% of sales are the result after establishment and training of farmers.6. Development of market information collection and analysesBefore it was difficult to understand the requirement of a customer. But when Arnold come in he introduced data collection too (ODK and Magpi) which helped a lot in data collection, analysis as well as system design and credit check7. Project Management.Arnold has successful managed number of project which include 3 big projects for SIMUSOLAR namely OYE with SNV, TAHA/Rikolto Project and DOEN project. I have managed to hand all the budgeting, management of resources and suppliers and proper report. With these, I have managed to be trusted by a company to handle different agricultural project.

1. Solar Water Pump TestingArnold was responsible of testing new design water pump in a real working environment before taking them for demonstration and marketing.2. Demonstration of solar water pumps This was done to farmers in their real working environment. Since it was a new technology farmers had to see how solar power can be able to pump water same as fuel or electrical pumps.3. Data collectionOn every demonstration done, feedback from farmers was among of the potential component to consider in order to understand the market challenges and requirement. With these data was able to understand and recommend the suitable solar pumps for the farmers.4. Solar Pump Demo establishmentArnold was responsible also to establish number of demos in different regions where farmers could be able to go and learn more.Was able to establish demos in Mwanza, Mara, Shinyanga and Geita regions.

Arusha, Tanzania

1. Training of farmersArnold was responsible to training the farmers on different agronomic practices based on Organic farming. He managed to train about 217 farmer in Northern zone about organic farming and environmental conservation.2. Farmers advisory servicesAdvising the farmers on different farm issues especially on farm management, disease and Irrigation techniques of organic produces was another role played by Arnold. He managed together with farmers to control number of pests organically like crickets and fruit bores.3. Daily Farm Management.Management of daily farming activities done by farmers under GAFCO was also his role. This activity includes pest control and water management. He was able to advise farmers from using of bucket irrigation to invest in drip irrigation. Managed to change 47 farmers from bucket to drip irrigation.4. Report ManagementArnold was reporting weekly to the management with the market analyses which helped to picture on what size of the market to prepare for the coming produce. This helped the company to supply fresh produce and reduction of post-harvest losses from 47% to 21% due to my proper reporting and follow up on action plan.5. Marketing of organic produce. Arnold was the one who established the marketing and sales of organic produce to Local market where he managed to sale 7 tones of butternut, which were to be rejected. And this added some capital to the company.
