The Carolina Wildlife Center began in 1989 when five Columbia residents recognized a growing need for a local organization dedicated to the care of wildlife in distress. Working in a garage, they received less than 100 patients that first year.Today they are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. In the decades since treating their first fledgling blue jay, they have treated and rehabilitated more than 55,000 animals representing 200 species.As a shift leader it was my responsibility to make sure all tasks are completed during my shift and that they are done correctly.Tasks included but were not limited to:Giving exams to new intakesCleaning enclosuresPreparing and administering medicine Preparing food for animals

The Interdisciplinary Mathematics Institute is a mathematics research center residing within the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of South Carolina. The IMI serves to foster advanced interdisciplinary mathematical research with the potential for meaningful application and to facilitate its transfer to the academic, government and industrial sectors.While working as a research assistant at the IMI I worked on research in electron microscopy image analysis using Fourier analysis with C++ and matlab.

EPSCoR RII Track I & II assistantship support was provided for 13 graduate and 5 undergraduate students in the Middleware Training Program for Spring/Summer 2012. Middleware knowledge and experience has become necessary as computational STEM research projects outgrow desktop capabilities. This is especially true as more dynamics and higher dimensional considerations are incorporated into engineering and scientific simulations, and as more complex algorithms are devised for extracting intricate information from data. Middleware components focused upon in this project involves the basics of programming and scripting languages, cluster use and emerging computer architectures, parallel and distributed programming techniques, multi-core programming including GPGPU, and the migration of desktop computing to the national computer grid.o Introduction to CUDA and GPU Programming  A parallel platform that uses the GPU, graphics processing unit, to increase computing power.o Introduction to Parallel Programming with MPI  Message Passing Interface, used for parallel computers and clusters.o Introduction to Cilk Plus  Set of programming language extensions that enables users to express data and task-parallelism in C++.o C++, Fortran, Linux and Shell, and Clustering Computing Programming
