I’ve been at LinkedIn from pre-IPO to acquisition by Microsoft, and have contributed to almost every part of the business. I led multiple lines of business simultaneously 2011-2017: Premium Subscriber Experience, Global Commerce Platform, Partner Integrations and Data Infrastructure for scale storage, streaming and analytics. At that time, I was responsible for the work of 300+ people. In 2017, I refocused to lead LinkedIn Sales Solutions.2017-present: LinkedIn Sales Solutions, a $1B+ business empowering B2B companies to build data-driven sales organizations. Sales Navigator and Sales Insights products enable sellers to connect with the right buyers at the right time.

▪ LinkedIn’s third-party partner API platform and developer portal facilitates all partnerships worldwide across LinkedIn’s consumer and enterprise businesses. We introduced new REST APIs and Mobile SDKs while protecting member privacy and adhering to GDPR policies. A team of 20+ team of Partner Engineers assisted and managed integrations with key accounts. ▪ LinkedIn’s Commerce Platforms power global monetization at LinkedIn including the purchase experiences for field and self-serve products (Ads, subscription, and one-time purchases). We also founded and expanded an Enterprise Platform team to help customers manage their accounts with LinkedIn. (SSO integrations, licensing, provisioning and admin controls). ▪ LinkedIn's Premium Subscription business ($1B+) provides advanced networking and insights for job seekers and senior leaders. We managed all online acquisition and developed features to help members expand their network and gather insights in pursuit of new opportunities. We launched a new “Sales Solutions” line of business and product that is now branded as “Sales Navigator”. Lastly, we launched a marketplace to connect small businesses with freelance professionals - originally called “ProFinder”, it is now branded as LinkedIn Service Marketplace. ▪ 2015-2017: “Connected Enterprise” was a venture bet aimed at making employees more productive and helping companies leverage their employees' networks. We created two products: (1) “Elevate” helps companies leverage their employees to share content and increase their social presence. Later merged into LinkedIn Pages. (2) “Lookup” integrates internal HR Systems with LinkedIn to better discover and connect employees with unique skills and experiences. Terminated following acquisition by Microsoft.

Engineering Leader for QuickBooks for the Macintosh platform.

Joined Steve Wozniak to lead Software Engineering at his startup. Goal was to create a consumer GPS device and web service to keep track of kids and pets. We failed. The device was too expensive, did not reliably track location and transmission range was too limited. I led development of the online service, enabling users to specify geographic boundaries and receive alerts. This was my first experience bootstrapping a high-available infrastructure at collocation facility, prior to the introduction of cloud computing.

I led engineering and operation of the wireless internet service and device software for the Palm VII wireless device, the precursor to today’s smartphone. I later was promoted to General Manager of the Palm.Net division, driving $50M annual revenue from servicing 200K+ Palm subscribers. We developed the world’s first mobile email, instant messaging, and website browsing. We built partnerships with 3rd party developers to bring their applications to the platform using our “web clipping” framework. Later, we acquired a web calendaring company to build a “My Page” online portal. I managed a team of 100+ people in Silicon Valley and Cambridge comprising product management, development, operations and business development. I packaged the division for sale after Palm shifted strategic focus away from services.

This was my first management job, to build the team and create the robots and software to automate manufacturing, validation and packaging of 3Com’s network interface cards. I created a global engineering team of 60+ engineers and launched automated factories in Silicon Valley, Ireland and Singapore.

Steve Jobs wanted to build NeXT computers using NeXT computers! I wrote customized NeXT software to control a variety of image-guided robots in the factory. The most challenging was a robot to place and solder fine pitch silicon onto the NeXT circuit board (do a search for “tape automated bonding”). The factory was later shut down as NeXT pivoted to a software-only company. At that point, I pivoted to building and supporting NeXTStep applications. I was honored to work with and learn from some of the brightest and most driven innovators of the time.

I paid my way through college by working at Rocketdyne. At first, I supported development of the “Delta” rocket engines that propelled communication satellites into orbit. After graduation in May 1985, I was selected to work in a team of four engineers on a NASA project to develop image-guided robots to weld the space shuttle main engines. What an amazing learning experience! Under an exceptional mentor, I created the main controller software that guided the robot’s trajectory leveraging signals from an image processing subsystem. That led me to image processing, and in 1988, I transferred to the Rockwell Artificial Intelligence Lab in Palo Alto to continue working on AI techniques for image recognition and decision systems. That was an exceptional experience to accompany my grad school at Stanford, where my advisor, Bernard Widrow, was referred to as “Father of Neural Networks.”
