I am an autodidact composer: in 1983 I started my first musical experiments with modified tape decks, hacked electronic toys and hifi-equipment. Around 1986 I was able to professionalize my technical skills and study electronic composition at the then legendary Center for Electronic Music (CEM-Studio).In 1989 I was one of the techno-pioneers in the Netherlands, working under names as Voltage Control, Spasms, The Implant and in collaborations like Random XS and Urban Electro.In the years that followed, I made several records and CD's in the emerging electronic dance-scene but, disappointed by the many conventions back than, I turned away and fled into more experimental music of which some was released on the German Mille Plateaux label.In 1996 I created “AeroSon”, a 40' soundscape as the Dutch admission to the International Rostrum for Electro-Acoustic Music (IREM). It won me the first prize in the category ‘Composers Under 30”.I've always showed interest with almost any part of sound, which has lead to a rather diverse number of activities. I'm a freelance radio-producer and editor with the Dutch National Radio, teach editing,-and recording techniques in various settings and I do both commercial,- and non-profit productions, ranging from remixes, leaders and advertising to experimental music and sound design. From time to time I'm involved in recording on location as well: for film/TV, or DVD-productions. I assemble, edit and mix for broadcast, film and games on a regular basis and specialize in surround sound and audio art. Together with partner and artist Iris Honderdos, I completed several installations worldwide.Due to my widespread experience in the area of sound and music, festivals and organizations sometimes acquire my help as consultant for audiovisual solutions or as an aid in setting up the program.

Tired of having to depend on others, I started my own company and studio back in 1996. Ever since, my company has been expanding in all directions in the field of working with sound: games, multimedia, editing, authoring, restoration, mastering in stereo and surround. Most clients are Dutch Public Broadcasters like NTR, VPRO, NPO and companies like U-Trax Multimedia (localization), BosBros (TV), Fiep Westendorp (animation) and artists like Speedy J, Marie Jo LaFontaine, Vaardigheid, Drifter.

Iris Honderdos (film, photography, installations) and Arno Peeters (multimedia and sound) are ‘community based’ artists and they have a worldwide experience in this field.Since 2003 they live and work together and collaborated on projects in the Czech Republic with former miners and their wives, Ukraine during the Orange Revolution and worked extensively in North-Vietnam with HIV infected women and female ex-drug users. More recent projects took them to Armenia, Friesland, Liberia, Bulgaria, Norway and Peru.In their method of working they cannot know upfront what they will create, since they need to home in on the emotions of the community they want to work with.After a process of research and meditation on a subject, sketching and modeling, the actual work on the art itself can begin.It results mostly in an installation, accompanied by sound or video and is presented to the audience during a performance or concert; it is a gift to the community.Their approach proofed to be very suitable for addressing complex or sensitive issues within local communities. Therefore they have been contracted by several NGOs. They have worked for the Medical Committee Netherlands Vietnam, for Cordaid in Sierra Leone, the Royal Tropical Institute in Meghalaya and Uganda and for The Institute of Development Studies in Kenya.

The fund promotes the development and production of high-quality artistic programmes by the national and regional public broadcasting corporations. The fund provides more than 16 million euros in subsidies annually for radio- and television programmes in the following fields: drama, documentary, feature film, youth, new media and performing arts. The fund also stimulates new genres, like video clips and games in collaboration with other organizations and funds.

Dialogue-recording, editing , sounddesign and mix for an animation-series based on the drawings of the (in The Netherlands) legendary Fiep Westendorp. At Cinekid, the series won the Kinderkast Jury Prize in 2010 and 2011, was again nominated in 2012 and won for a third time in 2013.In 2014 "The Great Adventure" was released in cinemas: the first full length animation movie in The Netherlands for decades. It got stellar ratings throughout, was nominated for Cinekid 2014 and won several international prizes.

India And Uganda

For the project 'Visualizing with Identity' Iris Honderdos and I worked with the Khasi people of Meghalaya (North East India) and the Benet people in Uganda. In both cases, we created an installation that aims to visualize their indigenous identity.

Editing, mixing and mastering for this art-project "architecture Trough Different Eyes", a massive book and 3 piece audio-CD, in which creative blind and bad sighted people review public buildings with the aim of transforming and renewing design and architecture based on sound.

Amsterdam Area, Netherlands

Together with Iris Honderdos and in admission of the Medical Committee Netherlands Vietnam, we have given creative communication courses for women in,- and affected by HIV/Aids all over North Vietnam: Thaí Nguyên, Dai Tu, Hanoi, Cao Bang, Halong and most recently in Ha Giang (2009). Preferably we follow such 3-day courses by the joint creation of an artwork and/or a public performance trying to tackle common misconceptions and discrimination.Since 2008 we have been training Vietnamese peers to give our training, which has been published in a manual (English and Vietnamese) and which has been spread to all NGO's working in this field in Vietnam.

The Center for Electronic Music (CEM) was originally one of the oldest institutes in the Netherlands dealing with this genre, way before synthesizers where commonplace: it is said it's earliest incarnation was 1957.I joined there as a student, learning to work with tape recorders and professional equipment for the first time.Later I started giving courses in Music on the Mac (we're talking DECKII and Sounddesigner on OS7 here...). In the late 90's the studio started to decline little by little due to the availability of ever cheaper equipment and a lack of interest of the younger generation to take courses in Electronic Music. By 2007 the studio had moved twice and found residency at WORM in Rotterdam.
