The Netherlands Institute in Saint Petersburg (NIP) is an academic centre that increases expertise in the field of Russian studies and offers services to researchers and students of the participating universities. As an intern I take part in the day-to-day activities of the institute, the co-organization of events (such as lectures) and helping out Dutch and Russian students. Further activities entail a project to develop a new system for keeping the collection of the Institute's library (specialized in Russian studies) up to date.

Jonge Historici is a national platform for young historians. Their activities include a broad variety of events and publishing opportunities for both students of history as PhD-candidates. As a secretary, responsibilities included co-organizing events and heading the diverse group of authors that publishes on our website.

Freelance reporter for a series of articles in NRC Handelsblad, 'Lezen in het Hart van Europa' ('Reading in the Heart of Europe'). For these series I travelled through eight countries in Central Europa and the Balkans (Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Albania, F.Y.R.O.M. and Bulgaria). I read a novel from each country and combined the experience of travel with the experience of literature; in each country I interviewed people about the author of the novel, visited specific lieux de memoire and addressed themes from the novel that still form a part of daily life in these countries. The articles were published both online and in the newspaper between July and August 2015.

Intern at the literary section of NRC Handelsblad. Tasks and responsibilities included writing articles and book reviews, editing, news gathering, generating new ideas and maintenance of the blog and social media for this section of the newspaper.

HSVL is an association of history students at the University of Leiden. It's activities exist, among other things, of lectures, study travels, book sales, social activities and the publication of Déjà Vu, a history magazine that is linked to HSVL. As a Board member of Internal Affairs I was responsible for internal communication, management of our committees and contact with other student associations of the Faculty of Humanities.
