Focused on breeding and genomics with an emphasis on epigenetics I worked with the Durum Wheat breeding lab under the supervision of Curtis Pozniak. This lab was primarily geared towards improvement of Durum wheat characteristics but also lead an international team of researchers to sequence and characterized both bread wheat and durum wheat. I primarily studied the effect of DNA methylation on polyploid genomes and the correlation to gene expression and phenotype. I was also responsible for editing papers, training students and assisting in genetic mapping and other breeding efforts.

My experience included, genetic mapping, HPLC characterization of polysaccharides, marker development, scientific writing, experimental design and field research. My responsibilities included presentations in international conferences, publishing, editing and reviewing scientific papers, training of students and lab management (ordering, developing SOPs, etc).
