I am proud of my country and as my father was in the Army, patriotic feelings are imbibed in me right from the childhood. But unfortunately, it really hurts me when I see the issues like corruption, education to the less privileged, inadequate healthcare, women being soft target, declining law and order situation, basic facilities like sanitation, permanent roof over the heads still remain unresolved. We live in a cynical world. Nobody is at peace. Infants turn into youths, youths into adults, adults into middle age and middle age into old age. Life is a series of perceptions and responses to the external world. Our response depends upon our vision and understanding of life and our value system. A vision of oneness brings about integration and a vision of differences creates more and more divisions. We see it happening all the time.In a socio-political-economic context which increasingly generates insecurity and social tensions, social workers play an important and essential role. Social work is concerned with individual and personal problems but also with broader social issues such as poverty, unemployment and domestic violence etc.My association with ‘Deeksha' as one of the Directors, a forward-thinking Trust, is essentially to engage myself to social work for those in needs. This unit looks at the meaning of ‘social work values’ as well as the different approaches to social work and the skills involved. We at ‘Deeksha’ are extremely ambitious and have developed a strong vision for the future. Right now we want to push ahead to the next level, striving for excellence whilst building on the progress we have already made.
