I was a full time postgraduate student at La Trobe University - my research area is the "role of theatre as a machine" for language learning, speaking and comprehension.I am an ongoing teaching associate (2016- ) with the the Film & TV School of the Fine Arts and Music dept. of University of Melbourne.I am a "Digital Storytelling" lecturer (casual, 2018-19) for the Dept of Agriculture and Food Production through the Film School of the Fine Arts and Music dept. of University of Melbourne.I was a freelance researcher and assistant director for documentary (ABC, SBS, NGO) and drama content with over 25 years experience.DOCUMENTARY: I researched, assistant directed and assistant produced documentary programs for 10 years.I worked in both the independent and commercial sectors, generating my own projects, and also working as field producer, researcher and director's assistant on production company generated work.DRAMAI have directed drama productions since the early 1980s. I have a wide range of experience in a range of settings.ACADEMIC: B Ed in Drama and Media, postgraduate diplomas and certificates in "Australian Studies" and "Teaching Shakespeare" at the University of Melbourne.I taught actor directing and documentary filmmaking at AFTRS and was Lecturer "Critical Thinking in Creative Media", for SAE in Melbourne.SPECIALITIES: Training and Directing actors .

    Director's Assistant and Rehearsal Director of "The First Fagin" a Feature Length docudrama commissioned by ARTE/ZDF and The Melbourne International FIlm Festival. The world premier was MIFF in July, 2012. The story follows the extraordinary life of Ikey Solomon, once London's top receiver of stolen goods and alleged inspiration for Fagin in Dickens' Oliver Twist. Helen Gaynor directed the dramatic components of the script and the edit with Writer/Producer Alan Rosenthal and editor Wayne Hyett.Based on an original idea by Arpad Mihaly, his role was to rehearse main actors for character development and backstory in their roles. Arpad was assistant to the director during the shoot and created a production photo journal for the stills and DVD "study guide" and educational materials.
