  • Aker Solutions
    Engineering Manager
    Aker Solutions Jul 2015 - Jun 2018
As an Engineering Manager I promote open, honest and clear communication between all project stakeholders (internal and external) as I believe this is the key to delivering a successful project. I have worked on all project phases from Tender and Bid through Study, Conceptual and Detailed Design to Implementation and Technical / Commercial Closeout.I have achieved a 40% tender success rate (2 out of 5), with an overall win value of more than £30 million for Aker Solutions. Throughout the various projects I have managed I have been consistently praised by my clients for my attention to detail, problem solving, management of change, improving of processes including my active pursuit of cost efficient and scope reduction opportunities. My most significant achievement as an Engineering Manager was the delivery of the topsides Late Life and Decommissioning scopes for the Ninian North UK North Sea asset owned by Canadian Natural Resources (CNR). The project included full topsides decommissioning of the Ninian North platform in preparation for removal and required me to manage multiple stakeholder interfaces with the CNR Operations, Maintenance and Facilities departments as well as UK Regulatory bodies. The technical modifications included new diesel powered electrical generation with a bespoke exhaust system and modifications to hazardous fluid handling systems. This project ran from August 2016 to March 2018. I directly managed a multi-discipline team of 15 people onshore and 8 people offshore as well as the key sub-contractors / vendors. The project was delivered with an exemplary safety performance with no medical lost time incidents. The project was estimated at 24 months and £4.8 million. I delivered it 4 months ahead of schedule and more than 25% under budget (£3.5 million). I achieved a 96% KPI score on this project and it is recognised as an industry leading performance in the UK Offshore Decommissioning sector.
  • Aker Solutions
    Lead Electrical Engineer
    Aker Solutions Jul 2011 - Jun 2015
    Aberdeen, United Kingdom
I managed a team of 10 electrical engineers and designers. I drove the continual development of my team’s skills to ensure we consistently improved. Through this mentoring process I helped less experienced designers and engineers attain recognition and promotion. The most successful project I managed was the decommissioning of the Murchison platform, the first of its size in the UK North Sea. The electrical scope included the decommissioning and isolation of electrical systems but the majority of the engineering work was associated with the design, procurement and installation of new TARTAN systems. These included LV diesel power generation, switchgear, UPS systems and solar powered marine navigational aids as well as the management of control system interfaces and the electrical specifications for mechanical pump packages e.g. pump motors. There was also significant scope associated with the sequential transfer from existing systems to TARTAN while maintaining safe and efficient operation of the live systems.I was recognised by the client as a key asset to the project and was offered the Operational role of Electrical Technical Authority. This role made me technically accountable for the safety critical electrical systems offshore. I worked with the client Operations and Maintenance departments to make technical assessments and decisions on any maintenance or repairs including liaison with the UK Regulatory bodies. I consider this role a success as there were no failures to any safety critical electrical systems during my appointment and I reduced operational and maintenance costs on the asset by challenging the industry norms.
  • Amec Plc
    Lead Electrical Engineer
    Amec Plc Aug 2007 - Jun 2011
    Aberdeen, United Kingdom
I completed a 4 year UK Engineering Council accredited graduate Electrical Engineering training programme at AMEC plc working on multiple projects including a 6 month FEED study to install an 11MW Gas Turbine Generator on the Britannia platform, compiling the electrical report & Target Cost Estimate of £28 million. I was responsible for the management of the electrical team compiling progress, setting priorities and technical checking of deliverables. After 2 years I had progressed from a Graduate Engineer to a Lead Engineer which was a significant achievement compared to my peers. I was promoted due to my consistent and reliable delivery, my honest and clear communication and my team working ethic. I managed a team of engineers and designers delivering the electrical aspects of offshore modifications projects including Power System Controls, UPS and Lifeboat upgrades. I directly managed over 20,000 engineering and design hours without exceeding budget or schedule.I spent my first 18 months at AMEC on the Sigma3 project providing onshore Engineering and Maintenance support for Shell's North Sea assets. I was the responsible electrical engineer for the Anasuria and Gannet assets. While at Sigma3 I chaired the graduate run HSE Initiative for a year.
  • Hulley & Kirkwood Consulting Engineers
    Electrical Design Engineer
Hulley & Kirkwood Consulting Engineers Nov 2006 - Jul 2007
    Aberdeen, United Kingdom
I managed the electrical aspects of a number of onshore construction projects reporting to the architect. Projects included refurbishment of a University Engineering Faculty, a new 60 person Residential Care Home and a new office block for Chevron. I produced CAD drawings as well as the engineering calculations. I developed tenders and bid award recommendations for the electrical contractors and attended site during the build to ensure design compliance.
