I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford, where I study human behaviour from an evolutionary perspective. My current research position focuses on the effects of social relationships on human health and well-being. I have conducted experimental, observational, and 'big data' studies to interrogate these effects scientifically. I also have an interest in public health, where I use machine learning techniques for natural language processing (NLP) to analyse data relevant to public health outcomes. I am currently working on a project that aims to build a machine learning model that can accurately quantify mentions of illness symptoms on Twitter; the project will test whether these methods could have been used to detect early warning signs of the COVID-19 pandemic.Outside of my research, sports are an important part of my life; I competed in track and field (javelin throw) for both Oxford University and South Dakota State University, where I was an NCAA Division I Track & Field Academic All-American.
