Arran Green is a performer, director, and dance-based educator who brings experience and understanding to the dynamic intersection of movement-based work. Originally from Finsbury Park, North London, an early background in Capoeira gave him an acute understanding of the uniting power of movement and its place within the community. During adolescence, breaking and the larger culture of HipHop presented similar opportunities to create a personal movement style, connect to a community, and support overall development - all hallmarks of the culture and now core values that are maintained in the work he produces today.In 2014, Arran joined the National Youth Dance Company of England and, under the direction of Akram Khan, discovered the empowering nature of large-scale production, storytelling through movement, and the potential of dance-based education. Furthering his studies at The Place's London Contemporary Dance School, Arran received training in the classical frames, deepened his creative and compositional knowledge, and eventually accepted himself as a contemporary artist and speaker of many movement languages.This varied background has allowed Arran to work diversely across a number of genres as a performer, choreographer, director, mentor, coach, collaborator, and teacher. From taking center stage in leading roles to supporting non-dancers taking their first steps on stage. He has collaborated with music and fashion artists, bringing commercial ideas to life for print and press. His varied cross-cultural past has led to a prosperous and diverse present.Green now serves on the board of trustees at Sadler's Wells Theatre, has become a university-standard lecturer in Contemporary Dance at Rambert School, as well as The Place's London Contemporary. But above all, he remains devoted to representing the pedagogy and intellect of the cultures that have led him to these opportunities.
