    Member of a multidisciplinary research team of physicist, biologist and engineers at IMEDEA-CSIC.I was involved in several projects to study the physiological response of model microorganisms under controlled external stimuli. We aimed to answer fundamental questions in biology, namely the importance of fluid mechanical stresses in diatom buoyancy regulation, dynamics of dinoflagellate infection and its role on harmful algal bloom termination and the development of a quantitative theory of phototaxis in Chlamydomonas and its importance on the formation macroscopic structures (bioconvective plumes). To address these fundamental question I employed a multidisciplinary approach combining experimental, theoretical and numerical tools.•Wrote the research proposal for a two-year 120,000 euros research project funded by the AXA foundation in biophysics of harmful algal blooms.•Wrote two research papers submitted for publication.•Presented our work in a national conference on Marine Ecology.•Skills developed: Teamwork. Oral and written communication skills.

    Devised, designed and developed a research project to study theoretically and numerically a novel hydrodynamic drag reduction mechanism based on the generation of a vapor layer (inverse Leidenfrost phenomenon) around a heated sphere. This numerical study allowed to determine the physical mechanism that lead to reduce the hydrodynamic drag of a sphere. •Skills Developed: Teamwork.
