About Alfonso Arroyo Santos
I'm philosopher and consultant. My specialty is designing strategies. Design here is used to mean that I undertake a problem and find an optimal solution. The future is crucial to solving the problem. Constructing scenarios and trends is my method of choice. I use it to visualize how things should look like had the problem been solved, and then I think backwards to uncover the steps necessary to get there. Information is crucial. From understanding the problem, to constructing the future, to making the indexes that will help to evaluate the actions implemented. To make sure I always have the necessary information, I’ve not only delved in probability theory, but have developed methods to construct data series using qualitative information. In my professional experience, data banks are scarce or incomplete. But there is always testimony. People who know what you need. S&S is a start-up founded to take advantage of over a decade of experience in prospective research. The basic idea is to construct a platform (businessprospect.org) to help new entrepreneurs receive advice and feedback at the early stages of business development. More specifically, the platform uses delphi and scenarios techniques to guide its users through all business developing stages. In the end, users get a highly detailed plan and (financial, prospective, hands-on) strategies that hopefully will help them survive and thrive: let's not forget that over 80% of all new entrepreneurships disappear within their first three years! The first stage of our project has been funded by an INADEM-World Bank grant.
Partner And Cto
I develop theory on prospective research and formal tools (mathematical and informatic) to construct prospective scenarios, scenarios about possible futures. The scenarios are built out of trends (something that happens or may happen), actors (people who can alter the course of a trend) and actions (things to do to accelerate or derail a trend). Data used to construct the scenarios comes from available datasets but also, from fragmentary information or even from inexistent data that can be turned into quantitative indicators using people's expertise. This information is used to imagine the most highly-detailed scenarios possible. These scenarios are built on a series of indexes that help map (geographically and temporarily), measure, and model each potential scenario thus creating a quantitative tool to assess the strategies aimed at achieving the desired future scenario. I am also in charge of implementing those tools to fulfill our client’s needs.Finally, I've also contributed in advancing theory on geoprospective research.
University Lecturer
I teach philosophy of science and inductive logic (probability) at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I conduct original research on philosophy of science and my work has been published at some of the field’s leading journals both for philosophic and scientific audiences.
