Head Of Engineering & DevelopmentCaracal Light Ammunition (Cla) May 2008 - Sep 2021United Arab Emirates• Plant capacity enhancement: To meet the customer requirements of 5.56mm Calibre Ammunition, 9mm manufacturing presses and machines were converted to 5.56mm calibre processes. The conversion kits applied to the complete end-to-end manufacturing of the product including machines, machine parts, feeding systems, tool blocks, tooling and drives. During this transition, it was also ensured that the presses and machines could be converted back to original settings on an as and when basis alongside documenting maintenance schedules, MTTR and MTBF. • Process improvement: Reviewed the manufacturing process flows of 5.56mm and 9mm calibres and combined the operations of 2nd Draw and trimming by introducing Pinch Trimming. This resulted in savings 32MH/8HShift in man hours, 64KWh/8HShift in electricity bills & consumables. Alongside this, by reviewing the washing of component processes and the introduction of new Washing & Pickling machine to replace semi-automatic and laborious operation, thereby the process time was reduced by 25%.• Product Quality improvement: As the Chairman of the Engineering Change Committee (ECP), I formulated close relationships and held regular meetings with customers over the years to understand Quality Issues and improve quality of the Products to meet customer satisfactions/requirements. As a result of feedback, we undertook revisions of various aspects of the production parameters and the specifications of Propellant and Primer. The changes were incorporated following extensive ballistic testing to ensure all customer and regulatory requirements were appropriately met. Overall, this significantly improved all customer satisfaction.• Process Automation:Designed, manufactured, built and assembled auto-packing machines in-house for 5.56mm and 9mm to replace purely labour-intensive operations. This was able to increase production capacity by ~40% while reducing manpower requirements by ~90%.
