Ar.Sowmiya is an Architect-Urban Designer having experience working as an Architect and Urban Designer in wide range of projects like Streetscape, Street Design, Residences and Institutional Projects. Ar.Sowmiya has worked as an Urban Design Intern at Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority where she worked on the MRTS Station Redevelopment Design. This experience widened her knowledge in the field of government projects and helped her to contribute my part to various projects in Urban design, Urban planning and in Transport Planning. Ar.Sowmiya has participated in various design competitions National and International Level and have won several prizes.During Ar.Sowmiya’s 1 year experience as an Architect she worked on various residential projects and hospitals. The hospital projects she worked on were scheme drawings.Ar.Sowmiya coordinated with the clients and understood their needs also conveying the design details. Worked on the Foundation Drawings, Plinth Layout, Beam Layout, Floor Plans, scheme drawings, Detail Drawings. Ar.Sowmiya would coordinate with the consultants especially structural consultants and get structural drawings from them. Ar.Sowmiya worked with various teams and also engaged with making clients understand the scope of architectural services. Ar.Sowmiya underwent site visits of the various projects that she was handling.Ar.Sowmiya is currently working as an Architect-Urban Designer for the Chennai Mega Streets Project(CMS) on various street segments. Ar.Sowmiya was involved in review of existing documents, data & master plans of the city including, CMP, NMT & Proposed Master Plans, existing site conditions, analyse and prepare recommendations for sustainable implementation of street design to create a cohesive design that addresses Mobility, Liveability and Utility issues within the area. In addition, there is focus on creating the recreational spaces in the neighbourhood and larger network level, rooted in local context and collating inputs from public participation workshops with stakeholders. She combines work with her hobbies such as Writing and Vlogging.With a background of Bachelors in Architecture,she went to pursue her Masters in Urban Design at the School of Planning and Architecture,Vijayawada and completed the same in May 2024.
