Art Branny Email and Phone Number
Art is a driven sustainability scientist on a mission to transform the food system. He brings behavioural, sustainability and food science closer to everyday life and turns knowledge into action by leading highly synergistic collaborations. On his path, Art gained his PhD and 10 years of experience in designing, leading and evaluating experiments in the fields of quantum photonics and environmental monitoring. Now he utilises his scientific talents for solving sustainability issues in the food system. Art spends his free time in nature and kitchen, running, meditating, cooking and eating. He believes that with food we can do a lot of good.

Strategist & Scientific DirectorChapter B Jan 2024 - PresentStockholm, SwedenChapter B is a collaboration studio dedicated to regenerating the way we work and live today. We partner up with you to create impact and are guided by behaviour and sustainability science, transdisciplinary methods, data and the people and causes we serve. Some projects we run today:- Collaborative projects to enable sustainable and healthy diets.- Sustainability strategy- Scientific consultations- Wellbeing Masterclasses- Wellbeing Micro-interventions- Residencies (People & Culture, Sustainability and /or Coaching) -
Scientific ResearcherStockholm Resilience Centre Sep 2020 - Dec 2023Stockholm, Stockholm County, Sweden2023 - now Deed by Deed project. I collaborate with the University of Oxford (Susan Jebb’s Lab) and a tech company Deedster to translate the latest scientific pilot study into a mobile platform and help employees adopt a sustainable and healthy diet. The aim is to scale up and prolong the effects of the study and investigate social tipping points in real-life settings.2021-2023 Multifunctional Climate Adaptation in Collaboration (Muklis) project. I coordinated a collaboration with six non-academic partners including the City of Stockholm and Stockholm-wide school administration (SISAB) to increase city resilience against extreme weather events which led to the expansion of sensor-based approaches and provided long-term monitoring capacity.2021-2023 Doughnut for Urban Development project. In this collaboration, I coordinated inputs ofeleven patterns from academia, private sector and NGOs including the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) which led to the translation of the planetary boundaries framework into an action-based manual for the real estate and architecture sectors. link to the manual https://www.home.earth/doughnut2022 - 2022 Smarter Greener Cities project. I co-led an interdisciplinary consortium, with five international universities, during which I oversaw our progress, designed workshops and outreach events, and guided collaborative writing. This led to the development of two academic frameworks. I also initiated a new approach for measuring the performance of nature-based solutions in Stockholm Royal Seaport by deploying twenty smart weather stations. This created a new monitoring capacity and generated new knowledge on the city’s resilience against extreme weather events. -
ResearcherKth Royal Institute Of Technology Apr 2018 - Sep 2020Stockholm, SwedenHere I led a development of the 'Atmospheric single photon LIDAR' in which I:• Build and test prototypes of a gas sensing lidar at mid-IR from the ground up• Nanofabricate mid-IR single photon detectors and integrate them into a lidar• Actively engage with industrial stakeholders via the Swedish CleanAir network• Share my expertise which already led to 3 new collaborations -
ResearcherHeriot-Watt University Oct 2017 - Mar 2018Edinburgh, United Kingdom• Designed state-of-the-art nanofabrication facilities for 2D heterostructures• Fabricated and performed spectroscopy on the first device with a 2D quantumemitter exhibiting a Coulomb blockade strongly coupled to Fermi reservoir• Integrated 2D quantum emitters into a lithium niobate photonic circuit -
InternAttocube Systems Ag Aug 2016 - Nov 2016Munich Area, GermanyIt was a hands on experience working for a fast growing company.Key responsibilities: I built a cryostat from start to finish, carried out tests and sent the product to a client. I conducted an independent project during which I designed and built an optical setup compatible with cryogenics. I used this setup to collect data which I analysed and included in a comprehensive report about my findings.
