I have an obsession. The curious side of me has developed a habit of consuming information from all sorts of sources like newspapers, books, blogs, and various forms of social media. The impact the information highway has had on me is inexplicably inspiring.Let’s face it: Knowledge is power. The availability of information feeds knowledge.So where does information security come in? Helping business utilize technology to their advantage is what I endeavour to do. With this in mind, it is key to take into account that your company’s knowledge base is its power. As I explain to my students at Fanshawe College, and the countless business owners I work with daily, it is imperative that you keep your information (data) secure. Watching the growing dependence on technology by businesses makes me wonder if it’s only IT staff that need to consistently change and adapt or if that holds true for every business. Some may argue that technology is not their industry but I believe you take away from your potential if you don’t utilize technology in helping your business strive. The tricky part is doing it right.Doing it right means you have proper IT service management in place. Despite the amount of information that one person may have, a team will always do better.The beauty of working in the IT field is that a lot of your work (if not all) can be done remotely. This is why I am able to work for companies across the nation. Although if I were to be completely honest, the thought of moving to California one day sounds like a dream come true, but don’t tell old man winter because I currently reside in his territory.
