As a Sr Consultant at Windstream (internal position), I am responsible for transforming our approach to network operations from reactive to proactive and preventative. This requires taking operational expertise gained over 10 years of network troubleshooting and combining it with industry best practices (ITIL), business intelligence (MS PowerBI, Tableau), network monitoring (Zabbix, IBM Netcool), big data (oracle, SQL, Hadoop), and scripting (perl, python) to create a strategic system capable of automated outage detection, reporting, and proactive remediation. All of this harmonizes into workforce demand reduction, decreased MTTR and fault recurrence, and an improved customer experience.

I served as an operations manager for both the Core IP Data Network and then the Access Layer Consumer Network, which involved leading teams of network analysts and engineers in a reactive/break-fix environment to restore ISP data (triple-play & enterprise WAN) services as soon as possible. This entailed prioritizing work and escalating issues with internal/external departments while coordinating with field operations & vendor support. Additional responsibilities included making hiring decisions, career building and professional development, and employee coaching where applicable to reduce customer downtime. As a technical manager, I also assisted in troubleshooting large-scale outages, running outage conference calls, informing senior leadership of status updates and proposed solutions, and following up with engineering departments post-service-restoral to discuss improved deployment, design, and preventative measures.

In March of 2012, I received a promotion within Windstream to the title of Network Engineer, working for the Network Quality group. My new responsibilities included market engineering for our Access Network, working with other Broadband engineers to ensure optimal network design changes, authoring Methods of Procedure (MOP) documentation, reviewing these changes written by peers, training new personnel, and implementing network changes as needed. During this time I also developed a scripting program to increase efficiency and reduce human-error rate within our department and others, and it has generated nearly 1 Million lines of command scripting in the last 2 years.In October of 2014, I again received a promotion, this time to rejoin the Data NOC as tier III (top-level) support. My projects included creating training material for junior staff, working with hardware vendors to optimize features within our deployed equipment, and cross-training with other departments who rely on our support for routing through the Windstream public network, all while being expected to resolve high-level issues within our nation-wide core network. I was relied upon for rotational on-call outage support while out of the office, serving our network that consisted of Alcatel, Brocade, Cisco, Ericsson, and Juniper routers and switches, running protocols and designs inclusive of: IS-IS, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, L2 & L3VPNs, VRRP, HSRP, LACP, and MC-LAG.

My position started out as a Broadband Technical Assistance Center (BTAC) analyst whose main job functions was provisioning and troubleshooting dsl circuits at the individual customer level. Being a company that has rapidly expanded and acquired multiple others in the past few years, the BTAC was split into 3 sections to divide required provisioning skills by market. I was initially hired for the one section of our client base, but later transitioned to cover each of the other 2 sections, getting the broadest provisioning experience available.After 2 and a half years in BTAC, I accepted a position in the Data NOC where the job function focuses more on multi-customer issues such as hardware malfunction, market oversubscription, and device reconfiguration (whether for new growth or replacement).
