Battle area clearance specialist, Bactec clears former warzones and military training grounds of ordnance. An international company it has completed projects in over 50 countries and has operations in UK, Mozambique, UAE, Australia, Lao and Cambodia. Bactec was a member of the private equity owned Dynasafe Area Clearance Group based in Munich. The software links email, instant messaging and social networking accounts to mobile devices. This UK company operated branches in three US States. These traded within the Synchronica Group.

Remington is a marketing led FMCG business dealing with large retailers (Boots and Argos). The core products are hair care products and mens shavers sourced from Hong Kong. Formerly owned by Victor Kiam, Private Equity backers owned the group when I started. The UK underwent a huge turnaround. A new MD set out simple but challenging goals. Communication from the top was excellent and the management listened to the employees. Simple, yet effective, measures moved the UK company from losses to profits. Remington was acquired by Rayovac from private equity owners in 2003.Ravovac then rebranded to become Spectrum Brands.The roles here gave me excellent international experience in a disciplined Sarbanes Oxley corporate environment. I gained valuable treasury experience that deepened my knowledge of international trade. I gained experience of USGAAP and coordinated the Sarbanes Oxley implementation in the UK.Roles: ● Management Accounting; ● Financial Reporting, ● Intercompany, ● Acquisition steps, ● Tax enquiries, ● Marketing spend reporting.Projects: ● SOX introduction; ● SAP implementation; ● Inventory system reconciliation, ● Roll out post-acquisition re-organisation steps, including overseas subsidiaries and branches.

An interim role to find a gap in the accounts. The investigation revealed lost paperwork rather than anything untoward. While I was there the depot manager went on extended sick leave and I led a warehouse operation for a few of months while continuing the investigation.

Energy Developments build and operates small power stations fuelled by methane from landfill sites. It was the best run and most rewarding company to work for. I was part of a team that grew from 10 to 70 people in those months. Listed on the ASX it is based in Melbourne.I was brought in to support the Financial Controller. EDL’s first overseas expansion this start up venture was a joy. The Expat management team had a wonderful energy that gave this fledgling entity a head start. The momentum they created led the staff numbers in the UK to grow from 10 to 70 in those 3 years. The company had a feel good factor about it because it created electricity from methane gas a greenhouse gas. The expansion was executed well.

A niche classic Ferrari dealer. Cars sold from above £2m down to £10k depending on number in existence, racing history and condition. I covered all areas of finance. Financial reporting, management accounts for the bank and investors, invoicing and job costing.My most glamorous job, the clientele of Talacrest comprises many well known figures. It was an eye opening experience with a tiny company of 10 people. I reported to the charismatic Chairman. I loved the small team, but there was limited scope for my development.

Hale and Company a five partner firm provided excellent accounting auditing and corporation tax experience. I typically dealt with a new client once per week and gain insight into so many different types of business. Initially I alternated between here and University on a placement degree. So I only actually worked here for 4 years.
