As an intern at the KAUST Catalysis Center, I contributed to the development of anenzymatic reaction cascade aimed at synthesizing chiral amines from low-costketones. My responsibilities involved a range of tasks, including protein expressionand purification, refinement of reaction conditions, and comprehensivecharacterization of the cascade's efficacy through substrate scope analysis.Evaluation of conversion rates was conducted via HPLC analysis.

As an intern in the Systems Environmental Microbiology group, I contributed to the development of a pathway designed to bypass the TCA cycle for assimilating acetate and CO2 in Pseudomonas putida. My responsibilities included cloning the expression plasmid and creating the selection strains by disrupting essential genes and characterising them using a growth-coupled selection strategy.

For my MSc thesis, I joined the WUR iGEM team for 2022. Our team participated in the competition with a project called Colourectal, a diagnostic tool designed to detect the early stages of colorectal cancer and alert the patient by secreting chromoproteins (colourful proteins) in the faeces. My specific focus was on the secretion of this chromoprotein in our strain, E. coli Nissle 1917.In addition to my thesis work, I was actively involved in the design team and served as the Lab Manager & Safety Officer. In this role, I assessed and managed any potential risks associated with our project, both in the lab and in the broader environmental context.
