In my role as Lead Architect, I am charged with leading the development and execution of our engineering roadmap. In the role of Chief Technology Officer at Notivize, I had the privilege of guiding our technical team and overseeing the product's journey from a minimum viable product (MVP) to a mature, production-ready platform. Here are some key areas of focus during my tenure:- Team Collaboration: Managed a dedicated team of 2 engineers, emphasizing teamwork, mutual support, and shared goals. This collaborative approach helped us in refining our workflows and enhancing our project delivery capabilities.- Product Development: Played a key role in evolving the company's product to meet and exceed the demands of our target market. This involved not just technical enhancements but also ensuring that our solutions remained relevant and user-centric.- Infrastructure Enhancement: Initiated and completed the migration of our infrastructure to Kubernetes (EKS), which significantly improved our system's resilience and scalability. This foundational work laid the groundwork for future expansions and optimizations.- API Transition: Led the technical shift from Flask to FastAPI for our API backends, a move that brought about better performance and scalability. Platform team (2017-2021):- Lead third party services integration: Rollbar, CircleCI, Datadog- Principal infrastructure engineer: Containerized our applications, lead transition from opsworks to Kubernetes, introduced terraform for declarative provisioning.- Backend: Driving Python 3 migration, standardized Django Rest Framework usage, overhauled our asset pipeline to use Django storage with S3 and Cloudfront, refactored authentication, setup Redis as Django cache.- Code quality: Introduced and setup tools like pre-commit, black, isort, etc. - Team knowledge: Organized a week long workshop on Kubernetes with an external training firm and conducted multiple internal workshops.Admission team (2015-2017):- Fullstack: Implemented features for student facing application process and for staff facing admission tools.- Front-end: Converted native javascript components and pages to react.- CI: Containerized our Django web application and migrated our CircleCI 1.0 configuration to 2.0 (then 2.1), leveraging that docker image.- Major project: Lead the specification gathering and development of our Student Information System (SIS), working closely with our registrar to deliver precise data modeling and terminology.- Backend: Leveraged Django to implement fine grained permission and data access API endpoints, which led to my first contribution to the Django project (https://github.com/Django/Django/pull/10381). Also helped setting up the wagtail portion of the website and added support for multi sites.
