I am a Member of the Health Care and Life Sciences practice of Epstein Becker Green's New York office. I represent all types of health care providers, including academic medical centers, hospitals, diagnostic labs, behavioral health entities, physicians, and physician groups. I also work with emerging tele- and mobile health companies to ensure compliant business strategies and information technology platforms.I previously served as Vice President for Legal and Regulatory Affairs at a major nonprofit health system in New York, and was General Counsel and Senior Vice President at two teaching hospital hospitals. From 1995 - 2000, I served as the first General Counsel of the independent Social Security Administration, after being appointed by President Clinton. Previously, I held senior positions in New York City agencies, serving as General Counsel to the New York City Human Resources Administration and the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and was the Executive Director of the Center for Excellence in New York City Governance at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School for Public Service at New York University. Between 1977 to 1990 I held various leadership positions at The Legal Aid Society of New York. I served on the Obama Presidential Transition Team for Social Security, and am a two-time recipient of Vice President Al Gore's "Heroes of Reinvention" Hammer Award for contributing to a government that "works better and costs less." I served as U.S. Representative to the 1999 Rehabilitation International General Assembly in London, and to the 7th European Regional Conference of Rehabilitation International in Jerusalem. I have been quoted in numerous publications, including, The New York Times, Business Week, New York Daily News, Deseret News (Utah), El Diario/La Prensa, and El Mundo (Spain), and has been interviewed on television and radio, such as NY1 – New York Tonight, MSNBC Chat, Independent Television News (United Kingdom).
