Since my departure from Novell I've had the pleasure of consulting for a number of companies; my engagements have ranged from CIO/CTO-IT type roles, to Architecture, Design and Engineering. While I have kept my company as a sole proprietorship, I have a number of people who indirectly work for me as I hire them into positions with the different companies that I help.

Architect, design and develop the driver software for the windows drivers. Collaborated on all areas of design, architecture and implementation of the fastest SSD platform on the planet at that time.

Manage all technical operations for the company's 25 countries. Architect, design and lead the development of compensation plan and payment management system. Build distributed, scalable infrastructure.

One of the highlights of the years at Novell was Eric Schmidt's challenge to build the fastest JVM on the planet, and as the Chief Architect for the Java Technology Group it was my responsibility to work with the many people who made that dream a reality. We worked directly with many of the industry technical luminaries from the tech world's big companies to figure out the ins and outs of this emerging platform. We worked with compiler companies to pursue optimizations on the compiler; we fought avidly to create a "server-side" specification because in our group we felt it was insanity to fight the desktop battle against Windows and Mac, where we felt that Java was the ideal language for services platforms. We researched building hardware accelerators and innovative ways to integrate portions of the JVM into the core components of the Operating system. Needless to say this was one of the coolest experiences of my career.In a sense, those early years at Novell working on such basic things such as compilers and those nascent protocols for networking exposed me to so much that few engineers will get to experience now that so much has been buried deep beneath the covers of the platforms. Creating compilers and libraries and API's -- arguing with so many incredibly brilliant minds who were all breaking new grounds at every turn was a blessing ... I consider myself a Forrest Gump in that regard, I seemed to always be in the background of some groundbreaking event, many times at the right time in the right place.
