About Arto Sandroos

Throughout my scientific career I have been working with simulations for solving complex problems that arise in the fascinating field of space physics. I have designed and developed many particle- and mesh-based simulations using modern object-oriented techniques. In these projects I have- used Monte Carlo and finite difference(volume) methods- optimized code for supercomputers and GPUs- created tools to visualize and analyze large datasets- presented key findings in published manuscripts and scientific conferencesThe biggest success has been the (currently) petascale code Vlasiator (http://vlasiator.fmi.fi/), which models near-Earth space in five dimensions (two space, three velocity coordinates).
