This position is responsible for the safe reliable operation of all power distribution, instrumentation, and analyzer systems in the refinery. The superintendent ensures that all work (routine, and turnaround) is done in a safe and environmentally correct manner, consistent with equipment design and intended service and in compliance with applicable regulations, standards, Sunoco procedures where applicable and industry practices. Responsibilities include reliability and PM programs, management of planning and safe execution of maintenance work requests, and compliance with regulatory agency requirements. Reliability Engineers, planners , foreman, and clerical positions are directly supervised, as well as hourly electricians and instrument technicians. The position has the primary responsibility for hourly maintenance workforce labor relations. The position also has responsibility for managing the work of E/I contractors and E & I outside shops and contractors to meet work demand.

Provide day-to-day technical support to the production facility in the field of instrument, analyzers and electrical reliability engineering, working closely with instrument and electrical technicians, planners, schedulers, operators, process engineers, and reliability engineers of other disciplines. Foster the reliability work process through the performing of root cause failure analysis, developing preventive/predictive maintenance strategies in MAXIMO and providing technical and permanent solutions for bad actors and technically support for new projects. Major accomplishments among others, the creation of more than 500 electrical PM strategies in MAXIMO (CMMS). Primary responsible for the implementation and execution of the SIS program.

Major responsibilities among others: provide technical services support related to instrumentation, process control and electrical equipment. Review process control systems to verify that they meet best practices safety standards. Recently helped to permanently fix a recurring problem in a BMS (Burner Management System) costing the company several thousand dollars in fines every day the burner was out of service.

Lead and oversaw the Maintenance/Reliability department. Main tasks among others, primary responsible for the implementation of Process Safety Management: Mechanical Integrity and Management of Change. Utilities operations and reliability. Manage ISO-9000 Calibration system for all quality critical instrumentation. Total project responsibility involving planning design, development, costing, justification, project approval, installation, follow-up and reporting. E/I engineering support of facilities and production optimization.

Due to the Plant restructuring the Procurement department was added to my duties and responsibilities. Normally 117 union and 42 salaried people reported to me plus around 150+ contractors. This restructuring allowed us to reduce our % of maintenance expenditures versus Estimated Replacement Value more than 0.6%, versus 1.5% considered best in class. Our general OSHA Recordable Index was less than 0.7%.Lead also all Processes and Maintenance disciplines and utilities operations including boilers, compressors, refrigeration machines, cooling towers, electric distribution and water treatment.
