Arun is a PhD Candidate at University of Minnesota Bio-sensing and Bio-robotics Lab. He researches on developing novel neuroscience methodologies for large-scale neural recordings in freely behaving mammals. He is passionate about advancing the field of neural engineering and understanding the neural basis for higher cognitive functions. He has dual minors in Computer science and Neural engineering. His current interests are in developing machine learning and deep learning based applications for data-driven approaches for analyzing large population neuronal datasets. Apart from his academic pursuits, he has been an integral part of the growing Neuroscience and neurotech community. He has presented his research work at various platforms like the Society for Neuroscience conference'22 '23, The Brain Initiative Conference etc. He also gave a talk at the Optica Biomedical congress, held in April 2024 at Fort Lauderdale on recent developments in miniaturized devices for cortex-wide neuroimaging. Arun received an MS degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Gandhinagar in 2019, and completed his bachelors' from Mahatma Gandhi University, India. In his early engineering days, he has gained ample industry research experience in engineering product design and optimization. He worked at SABIC Research Centre for 2 years, where he developed a novel technique to 3D print short carbon fiber composites. He then served as Deputy Manager in Product Design at Volvo-Eicher for 2 more years, where he contributed to product development and design optimization. His work on design and optimization for a folded quarter-wave tube exhaust muffler was selected for presentation at SAE World Congress in Detroit.
