Preliminary Surgery Intern

Pilitsis Lab - Neurosurgery (Sep 2015-July 2017)- Helped maintain patient databases for deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgeries and calculated lead coordinates for each surgery done- Conducted two research studies during my time in the lab, which were published in Neuromodulation - Collaborated with other students and labs in neurosurgery in various projectsInterventional Radiology (July 2017-March 2020)- Worked closely with Chair to design medical student and education initiatives- Co-founded Interventional Radiology Interest Group- Conducted pilot study sampling a month of inpatient procedures and analyzing wait times, transport times, and provided data to shape future administrative protocol, which resulted in creation of interactive scheduling tool- Submitted interesting case reports for conference presentations

Summer 2014- One of eleven recipients of 2014 American Association of Physicists in Medicine DREAM Fellowship Research Grant- Created a study to optimize tumor response assessment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) - investigating region-of-interest (ROI) placement in quantitative image analysis- Observed procedures in Interventional Radiology Center- Invited by Principal Investigator to attend Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Conference 2014 in Chicago- Presented findings as oral presentation abstract at SIR 2015- Manuscript accepted for publication in European RadiologySummer 2015- Created working database of cryoablation patients and collected data which can be queried and sorted. Used R to create linear and probability models to describe trends and possible clinical criteria for procedures.- Submitted IRBs for studies to be conducted through the new IR research group- Created length of stay database to investigate QI/QA in Hopkins IR Lean-Sigma Project. Wrote programs in R which calculate descriptive and inferential statistics for length of stay by month and specific IR procedure.- Edited and updated chapters in Current Surgical Therapy (Cameron) - Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt, Transhepatic Interventions for Obstructive Jaundice- Wrote two case reports on uterine arterial embolization and microwave lung ablation and submitted for publication- Wrote and published a review article on transthoracic needle aspiration - Presented findings as two oral abstracts at SIR 2016 in Vancouver, BC - Summer work and travel to Vancouver was covered by Hopkins

-Assists graduate student in laboratory research with image analysis using Matlab and ImageJ, cell passaging, mechanical testing, traction force microscopy, micropatterning-Participated in Undergraduate Research Program under Dr. Leo Wan's lab-Attended North Eastern Bioengineering Conference (NEBEC) 2013 in Syracuse University, NY.

-Runs recitation section weekly to cover modules for the course and to review material covered in lecture-Writes questions for weekly quizzes that students take during recitation-Manages and presents review sessions for prior exam preparation

Spent 2 summers volunteering in hospital- Shadowed physicians in rounds, grand rounds, and morning report- Conducted research with Dr. Pitchumoni regarding gastrointestinal cancers- Co-authored two publications in medical journal - one in print September 2013 (Practical Gastroenterology)
